RCH – North Texas Municipal Water District Connection Update

As we prepare to celebrate this milestone, we also want to provide our members with an update on the final major step in establishing RCH’s direct connection to the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD): completion of the transmission lines.
The pump station is complete and operational. While we had hoped to have the transmission lines completed sooner, a combination of weather conditions and coordination and permitting requirements involving other entities has caused a slight delay. The good news is that significant progress is being made, our contractor is actively working, and the transmission line is currently on track for completion by the end of this month.
Transmission Line Progress
Several critical pieces of work are now underway or have recently been completed:
- Atmos Energy crossing: The bore beneath the dual Atmos gas lines has been completed, and the transmission pipe has now been successfully pulled through the bore.
- FEC crossing: Crews have begun probing the FEC bore section. This verification work is performed immediately before directional boring begins and is an important step toward safely completing the crossing.
- Dallas Water Utilities crossing: Work is underway to install a temporary bypass connection this week. The project requires two lines to ultimately be installed approximately 30 feet beneath Dallas Water Utilities’ 84-inch water main.
Permitting associated with the DWU crossing has taken considerably longer than anticipated and had the potential to delay our connection by several months. Rather than simply wait, RCH worked with Kaufman County and our project partners to develop an alternative that allows one of the two planned lines to serve temporarily so we can move forward with the connection now. Once the remaining permits are finalized and boring beneath the DWU main is completed, that line will be transitioned into its permanent configuration.
This solution is another example of the work taking place behind the scenes to keep this project moving forward despite circumstances outside RCH’s direct control.
The Finish Line Is in Sight
We understand how important this project is to our members, and we appreciate your continued patience as we complete these final, highly technical portions of construction.
It is also important to put the scope of this effort into perspective. A water infrastructure project of this size and complexity would typically take four to five years to complete. RCH is on pace to accomplish it in less than three.
That accelerated timeline has required extensive planning, coordination, problem-solving and cooperation among RCH, our engineers, contractors, Kaufman County and numerous other entities whose infrastructure must be safely crossed or coordinated with along the transmission route.
The pump station is complete and operational. The transmission lines are in their final stages. And we are closer than ever to completing RCH’s direct connection to the North Texas Municipal Water District.
