NTMWD’s Annual Water System Maintenance Scheduled for March 3–31, 2025
February 26, 2025
Dear Members:
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has announced its annual water system maintenance from March 3 through March 31, 2025. During this period, NTMWD will temporarily adjust the disinfectant used in its water treatment process. This routine maintenance helps ensure safe and high-quality drinking water year-round.
What This Means for You
- NTMWD will temporarily switch to chlorine-only disinfection, suspending the use of ammonia in its process.
- This adjustment is a standard industry practice and does not increase chlorine levels. The water will remain safe to drink and use.
- Some may notice a slight change in taste or odor. To minimize this, you can:
- Refrigerate a pitcher of water overnight.
- Add a slice of citrus to your drinking water.
- Use a crushed 1000 mg Vitamin C tablet in bath water to neutralize chlorine.
Ensuring Water Quality
NTMWD regularly tests water quality to ensure safety, with additional monitoring during this maintenance period. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) also conducts independent testing to confirm compliance with all state and federal drinking water standards.
