NTMWD: Annual Water System Maintenance

Dear Members,

I’m writing to share an important notice from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), our regional water supplier. NTMWD will perform its annual water system maintenance from March 2 through March 30, 2026.

During this period, NTMWD will temporarily change its disinfectant process—switching from chloramine (chlorine + ammonia) to chlorine only. This is a routine practice designed to maintain the system and support water quality as temperatures warm up.

What this means for you

  • Your water remains safe to drink and will continue to meet or exceed required drinking water standards.
  • Some customers may notice a stronger chlorine taste or smell during this temporary change.
  • NTMWD and the cities it serves may also flush water from fire hydrants to help move chlorinated water through the system.

Tips if you notice taste/odor or mild skin sensitivity

  • Fill a pitcher and refrigerate water overnight before drinking.
  • Add a slice of citrus (lemon/lime) to improve taste.
  • For bath water, NTMWD notes that adding a crushed 1000 mg Vitamin C tablet can help neutralize chlorine.

NTMWD has additional resources available, including water testing information and FAQs.For more information, visit www.NTMWD.com/SafeWater. We will continue to monitor communications from NTMWD and share updates as needed.

If you have questions, please contact our office, and we’ll be glad to help.

Kind regards,

Robin Mayall
